In the late 1970s, filmmakers George Lucas and Steven Spielberg were working on their next production: a film paying tribute to the serials of their childhood. For this project, Spielberg immediately thinks of Harrison Ford to play the worthy hero of Allan Quatermain, but Lucas is opposed to it. Indeed, in addition to still not being in favor of the idea of ​​taking over an actor he has already played (“I don't want to make him my Robert De Niro!”, A reference to De Niro's link with Martin Scorsese), he fears that confusion will be made between this new character and Han Solo. Several actors are then approached for the role. It is ultimately Tom Selleck who is chosen to play the adventurer, but the latter refuses the role, because of his contract which binds him to the Magnum series. After this false leap, Steven Spielberg persuades George Lucas that "Indy" is a character cut out for Harrison Ford. The actor and director are matched by George Lucas, and despite being reluctant to sign for three films, the actor accepts the offer. Indiana Jones was born.

Plusieurs acteurs sont alors approchés pour le rôle. C'est finalement Tom Selleck qui est choisi pour incarner l'aventurier mais ce dernier refuse le rôle, à cause de son contrat qui le lie à la série Magnum. Après ce faux bond, Steven Spielberg persuade George Lucas qu'« Indy » est un personnage taillé pour Harrison Ford. L'acteur et le réalisateur sont mis en relation par George Lucas et, malgré l'hésitation de signer pour trois films, l'acteur accepte l'offre. Indiana Jones est né.
