Street of Grenelle
Elle porte son nom car elle reliait Paris à l'ancien village de Grenelle, mais dès le XIVe siècle la rue existait en tant que chemin, appelé le chemin Neuf, et est indiquée sur l'arpentage de 1529. Elle est aussi mentionnée avec les noms de chemin aux Vaches, chemin de la Justice, chemin du Gibet ou petit chemin du Port. Au XVe siècle, elle prend de l'importance et les noms de grand chemin des Vaches ou grand chemin de Garnelle, puis au XVIIe siècle chemin de la Forest ou petit chemin de Grenelle. Enfin, on l'a plus tard désignée sous les noms rue Garanella, chemin de Guarnelles ou rue de Guernelles. Au XVIIIe siècle la rue sera appelée Grenelle-Saint-Germain.
